Tell about yourself - your personality, lifestyle, etc.
Being a guy who grew up on a farm in a very rural area provided the setting from which my religious and spiritual values emerged, but I became a wild man in medical school doing most things that you can imagine. This blend of experiences led to the person I am today: responsible and loyal; impulsive and fun-loving; quite able to laugh at myself and ready to tease others. I become romantically devoted to a single individual but enjoy the company of friends for social events.
What kind of person are you interested in meeting?
My interest has historically been in someone younger than I, partly as a result of physical attraction, but likely, too, due to my own arrested youthful development. I prefer a committed relationship but the jealously of my youth has diminished greatly. Someone who enjoys being at home, as well as doing things with friends would be cool. I love my cats, so plan on seeing an allergist if this is a problem. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to intense outdoor activities, but I would start jogging again if that were a condition of marriage, and I snow ski well when I muster the energy. Living life faithfully, day-to-day, and having goals are admirable qualities.
What sort of relationship would you like at this point in your life.
Monogamous, mutually respectful, having a great capacity for humor, outside friends, and room for pets. My religious and spiritual life has always been an integral part of my life's journey, but most would say that I do not force my beliefs on others. My career is demanding, but I will make accomodations for another person and for his career.
Do you have a role model? Who and Why?
Pres. John Kennedy because he asked what we could each do for our country and not simply the reverse.
Who are some of your favorite Latino / Latina entertainers (music, TV, movies, etc.)?
Ricky Martin.
What are your favorite things to eat? (or what do you like to cook)?
I am a lousy cook, but I am great at cleaning up afterward. I eat almost all foods, esp. soft corn tacos and tostadas.
Where do you like to go out (on a date, to meet people, to go dancing)? Name some places.
Out to dinner and then to a romantic nightclub or play.
Name some of your all-time favorite music / movies / TV / books.
I like mindless, bang-bang, popcorn movies best, esp. if there are cute guys in them (including Tom Cruise until he began acting a fool about Scientology lately). I can, however, appreciate more serious drama and art when offered. Impressionism is at the top of the list. I enjoy spy/CIA thrillers and books like Dan Brown would write. Alas, I like the country music I brought from the farm, an affection shared by few of my friends, so I listen to most everything else. I'm easily entertained, esp. when traveling to San Francisco, New Orleans, and Seattle.
What type of work do you do? Do you enjoy it?
My work as a physician is a labor of love, and the most rewarding part is teaching Residents-in-training who are about to start their careers. If I could afford to teach full-time I would do so, but my miss-spent youth prohibits that. So, I do a lot of different stuff that's too boring to others to discuss here. I admire anyone in any job in which he takes pride or is setting goals for something else.
What do you enjoy doing for fun?
Traveling, movies, snow skiing (when I'm in shape), dinner out with friends, reading, political activity, and TV.
What do you hate doing?
Intense excercise for its own sake: I guess hauling hay on the farm was enough for a lifetime, but I'll jog if I have something to motivate me. Eating rhubarb pie. Waiting in line more than 20 minutes. Telling my patients that I am sorry but their health insurance does not cover that. Having certain other Christians claim to know what God has in mind for me and other gay people when there are looming problems in the world to be addressed and me having to tell them about this. Taking my cats to the vet.
Tell about where you grew up or where you are from.
On a small farm in Idaho; yes, we were poor, but had lots of fun and I am grateful for that background. Only child, which has its positives and drawbacks. Great parents (ie, no cold, distant father or hovering mother) who are now deceased. Still go back for class reunions.
Do you have pets? Tell about them.
Rachel, a little pathetic ragamuffen, and Julian, a large Tabby, who is scared of everything, including his shadow.
What would you say is your best virtue?
My polyanna attitude that things will turn out okay if a person can persevere, coupled with a sense of humor along the way.
What was the most daring / wild thing you have ever done?
Tried to fly a plane made of wood 2 by 4's off of our barn that my cousin, Harold, constructed when we were 5 years old. He is now a famous architect.
What terrifies you?
Really, I have no fear, and that has been a problem in my misspent youth and while skiing wilding down some slopes in Colorado.
If you were on a deserted island, and you could choose 3 items to take, what would they be?
Water supply; a picture of my lover; a powerboat with plenty of gas.
Your ultimate intimate dinner party would include which 3 guests (dead or alive)?
Jesus Christ; Pres. Bill Clinton; Pres. John Kennedy
How is your physical shape? What do you do to keep in shape?
I am very average, weighing about 180 lbs. I look better at 172. I do watch my weight now, even though I grew up a skinny kid.
While looking at a person’s profile, following the picture, what are the first things you look for?
"NO smoking" since I am somewhat allergic to it and get migraines from it. You're right: that never kept me out of gay bars. His interest is NOT limited only to other young guys or to guys with great bodies who love physical fitness. After that, even if I have to go to an opera once in awhile, I can survive.
What else should we know about you?
You can always write and ask me; the "worst" case scenario I might become a good friend.
